ReCollect

A digital waste collection and recycling ecosystem, designed for Syria and initially focused on Damascus.

In DevelopmentPortfolio overview

Overview

Connecting households, local businesses, collection teams and recycling partners through a coordinated digital service.

ReCollect is being developed as a connected service concept for requesting and recording collections, tracking materials and rewarding participation.

The problem

Why this work matters

Recyclable materials, collection activity and participation can be difficult to coordinate across residents, businesses, drivers and recycling partners.

Approach

From need to system

ReCollect is being developed as a connected service concept for requesting and recording collections, tracking materials and rewarding participation.

My role

Product concept and system design, bringing operational requirements together with an evolving digital product architecture.

Architecture

How the pieces fit

  • Customer and driver mobile application concepts
  • API-led services and a shared data layer
  • Administrative dashboard for collections and operations
  • Containerized deployment concepts with HTTPS and Nginx

Capabilities

Features & focus

Challenges

  • Designing a usable service around varied collection participants
  • Accounting for connectivity and operational realities
  • Keeping payment and rewards integrations clearly separated from the concept

Lessons learned

  • A useful digital product starts with clear operational workflows.
  • Trust and data quality depend on consistent records at the point of collection.

Next steps

Roadmap

  1. Refine user workflows and product requirements
  2. Build and test a focused prototype
  3. Validate the collection and rewards model with local stakeholders
  4. Evaluate payment integrations only when feasible and agreed
